Between 1970 and 1985 over 300 people died in London police stations, or in some way connected with police activity. Towards the end of the 1970′s the numbers rose dramatically. Death in the City finds answers for this increase in the growing power of the police, thier tactics and organisation.
Death in the City is an account of these deaths based upon the personal experience of families and friends and evidence given at inquests. The book describes the struggle of individuals and communities who set out to find out how these deaths occurred. What emerges is a catalogue of official indifference, neglect, insititutional racism and sexism, human folly and legal maladministration.
